Sunday recs/revs

Hey everybody.  So I am going to try and use every Sunday to recommend and review stuff I've experienced throughout the week or stuff that I'm excited for in the following week.

Music:
Esprit de Corps (303 represent)
The Weepies

New Releases(3/18):
Lydia-"Illuminate"

Movies:
Margot at the Wedding-  I saw this in the theatre as well and I have total admiration for this film.  Noah Baumbach is a master of his craft which would have to be character driven films.  If you liked The Squid & the Whale you will most likely enjoy this.  Jack Black is hilarious as usual using his typical antics.  Nicole Kidman reminded me how wonderful of an actress she is.  Great casting.  NB really captures the New York personalities in all of his characters.

Lust, Caution- This is Ang Lee's latest film based in China during the World War II era.  First of all, I think Ang Lee is a brilliant filmmaker.  He can shoot any story in any setting.  I was confused as to why the movie was rated NC-17 but once the raw sex scenes kick in, it all makes sense.  Although it was not of his best work in my opinion, it was still a solid and worthy film.

La Vie en Rose-  Yet another solid but not quite Oscar-worthy film.  The story jumped back and forth from different times throughout Edith Piaf's life and it got to be confusing.  The main highlight is Marion Cotillard's performance as Piaf and the make-up art that accompanied.  She absolutely deserved her Oscar win for best actress.

Funny Games-  This just got released in theatres and I have yet to see it but I hope to in the near future.  Some are saying it is the way horror/thrillers are supposed to be made and from the looks of it I assume that I will agree.  Check out the trailer.

TV:
One Tree Hill:  Those of you who know me well will cringe as soon as read this part because of my obsession with this show but I cannot stress enough how amazing One Tree Hill is for a TV drama.  Nearly every aspect of the show is great from character development, to acting, to even the music supervision.  They have the ending scene montage down to a science.  If you have ever been a fan of the OC, you would be missing out if you did not rent or buy the previous seasons on DVD and catch up.  Plus, they just got signed on for a 6th season.  Tuesday's episode is the show's 100th!  In the previews it claimed to be the most important episode of the entire SERIES!

LOST:  Lost is the smartest show on television that I know of.  The use of flashbacks and flash-forwards really makes the situation much larger than it actually is.  Last weeks episode was the first time the show used both flashbacks and flash-forwards in the same episode.  This is a show that almost anyone can enjoy at some level.

NCAA Basketball:  Selection Sunday is a little later today.  The March Madness tournament will start on Thursday morning.  I think I can speak for every avid sports fan in saying that March Madness is one of the most exiting events in sports.  Fill out your brackets!  I'll post a link for mine later in the week.

All for now.

Nick
